Why orthodontic treatment might be necessary

There are many reasons that your dentist might recommend orthodontic treatment to you, and these include:

  • To correct tooth crowding, or to make your teeth appear straighter.
  • To correct your bite, allowing your top and bottom teeth to meet evenly, therefore making chewing and biting easier.
  • Helping to reduce the chance of prominent teeth being damaged.
  • To improve how your smile looks.

If you have been struggling with any of the above, you may find that orthodontic treatment is the ideal option for you.

Who is suitable for orthodontic work?

If you need orthodontic work, you will need to have all of your adult teeth. This means that the treatment is not often suitable for children under the age of 12 years.

If you are an adult, you will have the option of beginning this kind of treatment at any age.

What are the types of orthodontic treatment?

Of course, you will be familiar with the concept of braces, and it is likely that a reasonable number of people you went to school with had them at some point. The braces that we can offer include:

  • Invisalign
  • Incognito Hidden Lingual Braces
  • Secret Smile Braces

You will usually need to wear your braces for between 6 to 24 months, and we will give you a retaining brace once your treatment is over.

How will I know which treatment is right for me?

You may be somewhat daunted by all of the orthodontic treatments available to you, but there’s no need to worry. Our team has excellent knowledge when it comes recommending treatments that will suit you the best.

We will invite you into the surgery to have a chat with you about your issues, and what you are hoping to achieve from your treatment. We will also take x-rays of your teeth and jaw, and this will give us a much better idea of what we’re dealing with. This will allow us to assess all of your options and give you the best information about what we could do for you. We can talk you through the positive and negative points of each option, and give you as much information as possible about how effective treatment is likely to be in your case.

How do I care for my teeth once the procedure has taken place?

If you have braces on your teeth, it’s even more important than ever to make sure that you’re taking care of them in the right way.

We recommend that you brush after each meal, and we will also recommend some kinds of toothpaste and mouthwashes that may be more effective than what you use already.

Provided that you take good care of your teeth while your brace is in place, you are likely to be more than happy with the results at the end of the process – leaving you with a straight, even smile that you will be thrilled with.
