Spring clean your teeth

Spring is definitely in the air and that spring energy to brighten up our homes and ourselves is beginning to be felt. Perhaps you have the urge to do something to sparkle up your appearance now that winter is finally on its way out. Instead of buying new clothes, or getting a new haircut, how about something else that will freshen up your appearance? How about whiter teeth?

In Camden, teeth whitening is an increasingly popular form of cosmetic treatment at Ace Dental. It is an easy way to brighten up tired, discoloured teeth. Teeth naturally discolour as we age. Also, certain drinks, such as red wine and coffee, and even certain medications can cause them to discolour. This is because the outer coating of your teeth  – the enamel – is prone to holding onto the pigments in these substances. Smoking is also a major contributor.

How does it work?

In Camden, teeth whitening uses hydrogen peroxide to bleach the enamel. This comes in gel form and is put into a special tray, which has been made to fit snugly around your teeth.

There are 2 ways you can have teeth whitening in Camden. The quickest way is to have it done during an appointment in our whitening room at Ace Dental. One of our dentists will fit protective barriers over your gums and lips before putting a tray of more concentrated power whitening gel over your teeth. You then just lie back and watch TV or listen to music for an hour. As you relax, the gel will work on your tooth enamel to make it several shades lighter.

If you prefer, you can carry out the whitening treatment at home with a special kit from us. This also has a lightweight plastic mould made to fit your teeth for maximum contact with the gel. Because the home-use gel is less concentrated, you will need to wear the mould for a few hours a day or at night, every day for at least 2 weeks before you start to see results.

Teeth whitening is not permanent, but you can extend the length of the results by careful brushing with a fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day.
